A proposed bill to amend Canada’s Copyright Act

A week ago the minority federal government of Canada, and Industry Minister Jim Prentice, tabled an amendment to the Copyright Act. Entitled Bill C-61, its purpose is to bring Canadian copyright law into compliance with the current WIPO treaty (this despite their being no international legal obligation to implement WIPO - it hasn’t been ratified by Canada). Naming Trends of 2008 (Mid-year Edition)

If 2007 was the Year of Naming Giddily--remember Meebo, Thoof, Kwout, Tapatap, and Oovoo, to cite just a few examples?--then 2008 is shaping up as Reality Bites Back. Real-word names, real-word phrases, and compound names formed from real words are suddenly on the rise. True, some of them make no more sense than last year's silly, baby-talky coinages. But at least they're recognizable, pronounceable, and relatively memorable ... and don't make you feel like a total idiot when you repeat them.

Tuesday and I'm really bummed because I thought it was Wednesday for some reason. I really went through the day thinking, "Hump day. Weekend's almost here." And when I sat down at the computer to write I noticed stuff saying it was Tuesday online and thought, "Huh?" I was so hopeful until reality sunk in! Andy Driscoll is the host of KFAI’s Truth to Tell, a show I have come to love and a must-listen for anyone who is curious about the issues we face in the Twin Cities metro. While something about Andy’s voice vaguely creeps me out, dude has been around a long time, knows his stuff, and knows all the players. The folks over at Royal Pingdom have discovered an interesting trend: Google Trends shows that the number of searches for both “web hosting” and “hosting” has decreased quite rapidly in the past few years.
